VDACS Sets Pesticide Collection Dates
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will collect unwanted, outdated or banned pesticides from residents and businesses in the Shenandoah Valley in the middle of September.

Pesticide product registration fees paid to the agency's Office of Pesticide Services cover the cost of the collection and safe disposal of the chemicals. More than 1.4 million pounds of the poisons have been destroyed through this program.

Collections are set for Sept. 12 at the Page Cooperative Farm Bureau, 127 Big Oak Road, Luray; Sept 13 at the Augusta County Government Center, 18 Government Lane, Verona; Sept. 14 at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds, 4808 S. Valley Pike, Stephens City.

Pesticides will be collected from 9 AM to 1PM at each site.

Participants are responsible for transporting the materials to the collection sites. If the chemicals cannot be safely put into a container for transport, the disposal contractor can make arrangements to get them contained.

Materials contaminated by pesticides, such as fertilizer will not be accepted. Motor oil, paint, fuel, fertilizer and other chemicals will also not be collected.

Participants should fill out a pesticide registration form, available here, and mail it to VDACS, Box 1163, Richmond VA 23218 prior to the event. Those unable to obtain the form can call 804-786-3798. Questions about the program should be directed to local Virginia Cooperative Extension agents or Jeffrey Rogers at jeffrey.rogers@vdacs.virginia.gov or 804-371-6561.
